Wyoming roofing: permits, codes and approvals

No state roofing license or statewide home code, so city rules govern: Cheyenne and Gillette roofing licenses, Gillette's re-roof requirements and ice shield rule, plus Wyoming's preliminary notice before first payment and 150-day lien deadline.

1 · Product approvals

Product approvals

Wyoming has no state roofing product approval or listing system. Local building departments rely on the IRC's labeling rules, evaluation reports (ICC-ES, UL and similar) and manufacturer instructions.

2 · Permit forms

City re-roof permits

No statewide re-roof permit rule. Cities and counties that run building departments decide, and several also license roofing contractors.

3 · Code rules

Code rules

No statewide residential code: the state fire marshal's adopted list (2024 IBC, IFC, IEBC and others, adopted June 28, 2024) does not include the IRC. Cities and counties adopt their own residential codes. Official adoption page ↗

5 · License and insurance

License and insurance

No state roofing or general contractor license was found. Cities license roofers locally, including Cheyenne and Gillette, often with an exam, insurance and bond.

6 · Lien and contract forms

Lien and contract rules

A prime contractor must send the owner a preliminary notice before taking any payment, or loses lien rights. Contractors then have 150 days to file, after a 20-day notice of intent.
